ABOUT MYSELF

Please note: I do not like the Zoom Company or its Zoom Meetings services and software. I prefer the Jitsi.meet software and the 8x8 hosting service for use with Jitsi.meet. Without going into details, there are serious privacy and security issues with Zoom. Leave it at that.

(1) I am active in the Lexington Technology User Group. We normally meet at the Lexington Community Center on Marrett Road in Lexington, MA on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. Currently meeting via Zoom -- get on our mailing list to receive an invite and link.

(2) I am active in the Natick FOSS User Group. Our focus is on various distros of Linux and the Free and Open Source software which works under Ubuntu, Fedora and other Linux distros. Some of the same Open Source Software also works with Windows, Chrome OS and Mac OS. We do not discuss Android or iOS for iPads and Mac PCs.
 Our group has been meeting at the Natick Senior Center in Natick, MA. Currently we use Jitsi.meet via 8x8. This is an entirely open-source alternative to Zoom.
 Anyone able to install the Jitsi .meet software or web browser extension can visit the Natick FOSS Archives and use our link to get into our meetings, or else follow our Live Stream and archived meeting recordings on You Tube. Thanks to Dennis Payne of the Natick FOSS User Group for posting our You Tube recordings. You do not need to be running Linux to participate in a Jitsi meeting.

(3) I am also an active member of the Waltham Land Trust, in Waltham, MA. We do environmental advocacy, land use advocacy for conservation, and trail and open space stewardship work. We remove invasive plants and plant native species to make our open spaces more accessible to passive recreational users and to support native wildlife. We also remove trash and report on hazardous trail conditions so that local and State officials can take action. Passive use of trails includes just about any activity which does not involve motorized vehicles and which respects and preserves the open spaces and the environment generally.

(4) I have reconnected via Zoom meetings with the Chicago Computer Society, which was meeting at various locations throughout the Chicago, IL area. We meet at various times via Zoom now. If you want to join us, the best way is to get a link from a member of CCS, such as myself. I can be emailed at:
